TupleShop ergo hacking: part II 4 comments

For completeness, one more post on my new office setup.

“The Grid.” A fair amount of real estate. I feel I have plenty of room and more importantly, I love to look at these things which makes me want to sit down and work!

The star of this post is this “Ray” chair from RFM Seating. mattly (in #caboose) says it’s overkill, but I totally disagree. I guess I could live without the head rest, but it’s nice to have when reclining. Order your own from Steve Alexander – ergoguy.com.

The chair is fully adjustable and the best part is that all adjustments are easy to do while sitting in the chair. This, along with the adjustable keyboard tray in my earlier post, make it so you can find just the right position, or better yet, change positions through out the day.

Here’s a great view of the chair’s saddle:

I think that it for my ergo posts. I’m officially “dialed in.” Now, off to work…

    Does the MBP drive both of those monitors plus it’s own screen? If so, that’s mighty impressive. I have a MB, and I’m hoping to get a Dell 24” soon. Right now I also Synergy to a PC (on a second monitor) and I have yet to decide if I’ll be continuing that process or not (or getting a Mac mini).

    I also plan to get reticulating monitor arms to completely open up the desk space.

    @Barry Hess:

    The MBP can’t control two external monitors (as far as I know).

    The monitor on the right is of my Ubuntu box which I control with Synergy. I’m a little confused about what you are trying to decide but I would order the Dell 24” now and work out the details later! :)

    Berry, I checked out your blog and saw your use of Vimeo. Looks like a very slick video sharing service. I think I’ll try it.

    Rob,

    Sorry for the confusion. No, the MB isn’t going to control two externals. I knew that wasn’t a possibility for me.

    I didn’t want to bore you with my other decisions, but basically I’m wondering (to myself) if I should drop that extra monitor (and extra PC system) when the real estate of the 24” Dell makes its way onto my desk. Right now I could either (a) leave the second system as is, (b) convert the second machine to Ubuntu, (c) replace the second machine with a mini, or (d) just give up and eliminate the second machine.

    In any case, the Dell 24” will probably be ordered in early October, methinks.

    Vimeo is a nice service for sharing videos with family and friends. I like the interface and general feel of the site.

    @Barry Hess:

    I think that screen real estate can always make you more productive. I suppose there’s some limit to that extreme (Al Gore might be getting close) but we’re not there yet, me thinks.

    If you have an “extra” monitor, and you don’t mind the desk space it uses up, or the noise of the additional machina in the room, then just use it to monitor logs or something. Anything that you would normally do on your primary box, that you can unload onto another, is a productivity gain.

    The noise thing is a pretty big issue to me. My Ubuntu box is pretty loud so I got a really long (and heavy duty) VGA cable so I can put the tower in the other corner of the room. One day I’ll just replace it with a more modern (quieter) box. Till then, I’m milking the life out of this box I built in 2001.
