For Hire

Posted by robon June 26, 2007

I had a blast at Foo camp this past weekend. While there, I had a number of conversations with people (as well as a session with Paul Graham) that convinced me that it's probably time to move on to a more interesting and rewarding job. So, I've posted my resume here:

For those budding rails developers, hanging on the edge of their seats, waiting for my book in French:

foocamp07_2007-06-22.rb (nerd music)

Posted by robon June 14, 2007

I was fortunate enough to be able to invite a couple of people to foo camp this year and I think it's worth sharing how I chose them and what that means.

It was random, to an extent. It was random that I was able to pick. What was less random was that I picked people who I knew had strong opinions, but who also had the chops to back them. Additionally, these people are willing to socialize and interact.

Don't think for a second that it's an elitist gathering of hand selected, "famous" nerds. Instead, think of it like someone forming a band--the people are deliberately invited. If a band formed more randomly, there would be much less chance of the music being good.

This camp creates great nerd music.

So, fire up the "bar camps" now that you get the idea. There's nothing special about foo; or at least nothing you can't create yourself.

chaotic ruby golf

Posted by robon June 14, 2007

A lot of people ask my why I like golf. (Let me clarify; I think I just deduce that's what they're asking.) A comment like, "*you* play golf?" So I thought about it a little. Here's what I got:

Golf is endlessly difficult. Physically and mentally. The most challenging part is controlling choas--like the weather. In this way, it's a lot like surfing in northern california, where the waves suck and the water is cold.

Occationally you get lucky or someone else does and you catch the one good wave; or watch as your ball curves along the exact path that you envisioned.

I also get this feeling with Rails.

Coderay Test...

A completely useless post, just showing that I got Coderay running correctly again.
